grandpas

The other day after work, I saw an elderly korean couple really struggling to walk across the street. The grandpa was having an especially difficult time and was left behind by the grandma. I watched them for about a minute, but then I couldn't stand it anymore so I went across the street to where they were to ask them where they were going and if I could pay for a cab to take them there. The grandma kept insisting that it was okay because she was just visiting a friend two blocks away. I guess she decided he was holding her back, so she gave him the key and told him to head back home. He kept saying he was okay and told me to go on my way, BUT I didn't feel right about it so I stayed a few feet behind him to make sure he got home okay. He was walking SO slowly and had to make such frequent stops that I was behind him for a good 15 minutes before I realized we were still on the same block. At one point I just stopped and was looking on my phone when I heard a loud crash and when I looked up I realized he had fallen against a metal gate and was on his back. I ran over and luckily there was another guy who had been walking by when it happened so we each grabbed an arm and helped him back to his apartment building. Once we got there, I noticed he had a huge bump on his forehead that was starting to turn purple. The security guard began to call the police, but the grandpa kept saying ,"NO! NO! I'M OKAY!" so he ended up just hanging up. This is when the security guard began to say, "It is his FREEDOM OF SPEECH not to go to the hospital!!!" I didn't know what to say. Some people are just not smart. I tried to convince the grandpa to go to the hospital, but he kept refusing and insisting he was fine. I went home and I couldn't stop thinking about what happened. At that point, I convinced myself he had a concussion so I called 911 to have an ambulance sent over. LAPD really sucks. LIKE REALLY REALLY REALLY SUCKS. All the LAPD officers I've had the horrible experience of meeting have been really cocky, nasty people. The operator was no different. I explained the situation and asked her if there was a social service number or something she could provide... her response, "NOPE." Then I said, "so, if someone senile is obviously in need of medical attention, but denies it, you just let them die?" Her response, "There's nothing we can do." I just hung up because she sucked big time. Luckily my roommate is a social worker and had a number for me to call. They were really helpful, but told me someone could make the trip out anywhere from same day to two weeks.... GRANDPA DOESN'T HAVE TWO WEEKS!

I have no idea how he is, but hopefully he's okay. I don't really know why I'm writing about this. I guess a year from now when I look back at this blog and get embarrassed at how silly I sound, it'll be good to know that I did at least one nice thing this year, but also to remember that the LAPD sucks big time!!!

Eventually, I want to write about my own grandpa and how he lived and how he passed away, but I'm still blocking it out. It feels like a weird thing to admit, but I don't think I have the time or energy to move on so I'm just putting it on hold.

I think I probably sound really depressing, but honestly, I'm a pretty content person. Most likely because I'm blocking things out, but ignorant people are happy people. If you're thinking too much, you'll realize that the world is a completely fucked up place.

HAKUNA MATATA, BITCHES!
